Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (“DFCCIL”) is a Special Purpose Vehicle set up under the administrative control of Ministry of Railways to undertake planning & development, mobilization of financial resources and construction, maintenance and operation of the Dedicated Freight Corridors (“DFC”).
The DFCs encompass two Corridors, namely, Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) of length 1856 kms from Sahnewal (near Ludhiana) to Dankuni (near Kolkata) and Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) of length 1504 kms from Dadri (near Delhi) to Jawaharlal Nehru Port (Navi Mumbai), and is expected to be completed and commissioned by 2021.
DFC is an iconic project for development of dedicated freight Rail lines to provide a boost to freight transportation with reduced transport logistics cost. Creation of rail infrastructure on such a scale is unprecedented. The project is also expected to drive the establishment of industrial corridors and logistic parks along its alignment. The project will reduce carbon footprint due to reduced emissions and reap huge environmental benefits for the nation.
DFCCIL intends to develop a section of Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) between Sonnagar – Gomoh (263.7 kms) on PPP basis. The total project cost is estimated at INR 9,000 Cr. The section traverses through the mineral rich region of the country. The project is one of the largest projects to be undertaken by Indian Railways on PPP basis along the upcoming Dedicated Freight Corridor. The project is expected to serve as a benchmark in the coming years for Railway PPP projects. The PPP framework shall ensure appropriate risk allocation mechanism, revenue guarantees, maximize returns for the private players and bring in best practices from around the globe to boost efficiency of the section. The Project is also envisaged to boost the logistics sector by providing efficient transport logistic solutions and associated logistics services to the customers which would in turn help in boosting the economy.
“With a vision of increasing private participation in Railway projects, DFCCIL is hosting an Investors Meet on Monday, November 25, 2019 at Hotel Lemon Tree, Patna, Bihar.”
The deliberations of the event shall focus on sharing the project information with the private sector and elicit their feedback for the project. The detailed agenda of the same is attached.
